Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can I connect two 10 Gbps USB-A devices and wired Ethernet?
It documents two USB-A data ports at an advertised 10 Gbps capability and Gigabit Ethernet in the same hub. Their traffic still shares the host link.
Explore this need in the finder →Will the supplied 24 W adapter charge my laptop through the hub?
No. The manufacturer explicitly says No PD Pass-Through. The adapter is for the hub and attached devices.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its extra USB-C socket drive a monitor?
No native USB-C video route is documented. That downstream socket is a data connection, so an essential external screen needs a different product.

The StarTech HB31C2A1CGS is useful when a computer has USB-C but your desk still needs two USB-A connections, another USB-C data socket and Ethernet. Its supplied 24 W power adapter and detachable one-meter host cable make it a desk-oriented peripheral hub rather than a tiny bus-powered dongle. The main reason to choose it is that combination of mixed data ports and wired networking. The deciding limitation is that its power supply does not charge the laptop through the host cable.
Three data ports share one route back to the computer
The datasheet identifies two downstream USB-A ports and one downstream USB-C port, all with advertised 10 Gbps capability. That is a useful arrangement for a newer USB-C drive alongside existing USB-A accessories. It is not three independent 10 Gbps connections all the way into the computer. The upstream link and the host's own capabilities still limit the combined traffic, with Ethernet adding another task on the same hub.
The manufacturer documents a USB-C data host and Thunderbolt 3 compatibility. Connecting the hub to a Thunderbolt port does not transform the hub into a Thunderbolt dock or create video outputs it does not have. Likewise, an advertised line rate is not a measured file-copying result. Storage media, connected devices and simultaneous activity all affect practical transfers.
Gigabit Ethernet is the network feature
The integratedRJ45 connection supports 10/100/1000 Mbps networks. It provides a wired alternative when the computer lacks a network socket, rather than requiring a separate adapter beside the hub. Wake-on-LAN and other network features are listed by StarTech, but the broader network and computer configuration must support those functions. This is a Gigabit link, not a 2.5 Gbps upgrade.
StarTech names Windows, macOS, Linux and iPadOS in the specification and says drivers install automatically in most versions. That wording should not be stretched into a guarantee for every software build or every later Apple chip. For a managed computer, check the exact network-driver requirements with the administrator. The optional StarTech connectivity utilities are separate from a claim that a special display driver is required; this product has no native display-output arrangement in its documented port map.
Supplied power serves the peripherals
The universal adapter accepts 100–240 V mains and supplies 12 V at 2 A, with North American and other regional clips listed in the package. That 24 W rating belongs to the hub's power source. The same datasheet explicitly states that USB PD pass-through is not supported. If your goal is a single cable that both connects accessories and charges a laptop, this model does not complete that job.
One USB-A connection also has fast-device-charging behavior. StarTech distinguishes data-and-charge use with an active host from dedicated charging when the host is off, asleep or disconnected. That is useful for compatible phones or tablets, but it does not become laptop PD simply because charging is mentioned. Nor should the adapter's whole wattage be treated as the allowance for each individual socket.
A cable you can position and replace
The included host cable is detachable and one meter long, allowing the hub to sit where its ports are accessible instead of hanging directly from the computer. Retain a cable appropriate for the documented data route if you replace it; a USB-C-shaped charging cable is not automatically equivalent. StarTech describes a compact desktop body and offers separate mounting accessories. Those optional mounts are not evidence that a desk clamp is included.
The product's 87 g weight is the hub, not the total travel load of the adapter and cables. There are no SD or microSD readers in the complete connector list, so card imports require another device. HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C monitor output are also outside the documented arrangement.
The useful shortlist distinction
Choose the HB31C2A1CGS when mixed 10 Gbps data ports, an accessible cable and Gigabit Ethernet solve the problem. Choose a PD-capable multiport adapter when laptop charging is essential, or a video dock with a supported display mode when a monitor is part of the setup. This hub can be a focused desk upgrade without pretending that every USB-C accessory performs all three roles.
