Explore this need in the finder →A portable data hub with a place for its plug
The TP-Link UH400 V2 is a four-portUSB-A data hub for a relatively simple problem: a computer has too few accessibleUSB-A sockets for the accessories you already use. Its distinctive feature is an integrated lead that folds into a recess in the body for storage. Choose it for portable data expansion without a separate adapter. Choose something else if laptop charging, aUSB-C peripheral socket or a monitor must also work through the hub.
Four genuine data sockets
The manufacturer identifies fourUSB 3.0 outputs and aUSB-A computer-side plug. These are conventional data connections, rather than a mixture in which some headline ports only charge accessories. The stated interface maximum is 5 Gbps, with actual rates limited by the computer and connected equipment. Four sockets are useful for keeping several devices attached, but do not provide four separate 5 Gbps routes all the way back to the host.
A keyboard, mouse, flash drive and similar devices may create a different workload from several fast drives copying at once. Consider the equipment rather than counting only plugs. The reviewed sources do not give a numerical combined peripheral-power budget. If a device needs its own external supply, adding this hub should not be assumed to remove that requirement.
The lead folds; it does not detach
TP-Link describes a folding-cord design and a storage slot that keeps the metallic host connector from remaining exposed in a bag. That is different from a rigid swivel plug connected directly to a hub body. It is also different from a detachable cable that you can replace with a longer one. The short integrated lead places the hub near the computer's port, so check whether there is a convenient surface for the body to rest on.
The manufacturer's dimensions are 71by 71by 16.6 mm. Allow additional working room for the connected cables and largerUSB plugs. The design is portable external equipment, not a clamp, an internal header accessory or a hub shaped to mount under a particulariMac. Its fit comes from the normal host cable, not a computer-specific mechanical attachment.
No separate power brick, and no laptop charging
TheV2 guide describes power from a suitable computer and the package contains the hub and installation guide rather than anAC adapter. That makes carrying it straightforward, but it does not make theUSB-A computer connection a charging input for the laptop. Data expansion and host charging are separate functions, and this product documents the former.
There is noUSB-C PD pass-through, HDMI, DisplayPort, Ethernet or card reader in the complete connector description. If you need those functions, a multiport adapter or dock is a different purchase. AUSB-C-shaped adapter at the computer end would not, by itself, add video or change the hub's downstream socket roles. Use an actual documented arrangement rather than assuming any physically fitting accessory completes the job.
Software and wireless-device placement
The original quick-install guide says no extra hub driver is required forWindows, MacOSX orLinux. The manufacturer page namesWindows versions through 10 in its support note. Treat those statements in their actual scope, rather than turning a genericMac line into fresh verification of every laterApple processor. Attached peripherals may still require their own software or permissions.
TP-Link also warns that 2.4GHz wireless devices, including keyboards and mice, can be affected when used too close to theUSB 3.0 hub. That is a useful placement consideration for a wireless receiver next to activeUSB equipment. It is a manufacturer caution, not an interference measurement performed for this review. Follow the guide and arrange sensitive receivers with that warning in mind.
Choose it for the focused job
TheUH400 V2 makes sense when the essential request is fourUSB-A data connections in a portable package with a tidy built-in cable. It is less suitable for replacing a full desk dock, powering unspecified demanding peripherals or adding modernUSB-C data sockets. Compare a powered desktop hub for a larger permanent collection, or a mixed-portUSB-C hub when the computer and peripherals have moved to that connector. Its value is the specific data layout and folding lead, rather than promises of functions it was not designed to provide.
